Clinic Introduction

A Pioneer in Advanced Acute Care: Delivering Regional and National Firsts in the Iburi District

Steel Memorial Muroran Hospital, a Social Medical Corporation, serves as a hub of advanced acute care medicine for the Iburi district. In January 2026, the hospital launched Japan’s first Regional Healthcare Promotion-type Advanced Remote ICU in collaboration with Sapporo Medical University Hospital. Robot-assisted surgery using the da Vinci Surgical System — the first of its kind in the Iburi region — has surpassed a cumulative total of 1,000 procedures in the six years since its introduction. The hospital has also established the first dedicated tuberculosis ward among private hospitals in Hokkaido. The total number of full-time physicians across the corporation has reached 100, and efforts to further strengthen clinical capacity remain ongoing.

—

Advanced Facilities and Regional Collaboration Supporting Acute Care Medicine

The hybrid operating room, which became fully operational in May 2025, enables cutting-edge surgical treatments utilizing high-precision fluoroscopy and diagnostic imaging. Plans for a new hospital building are also progressing, with construction scheduled to commence in October 2028, aimed at further enhancing the medical environment dedicated to both advanced and standard acute care. In addition to a regional collaboration framework that includes physician dispatch to neighboring hospitals, the institution conducts joint DMAT and DPAT drills in preparation for large-scale earthquakes, demonstrating a sustained commitment to disaster medical preparedness.

—

Empowering Community Health and Well-Being Through Regular Seminars and Hospital Publications

The hospital regularly hosts health seminars and cancer education seminars covering a broad range of topics — including lung cancer, myocardial infarction, arrhythmia, COPD, and cancer pharmacotherapy — to promote greater health literacy among community members. The diabetes education program features physician-led lectures as well as hands-on cooking classes. The hospital’s newsletter, Haato, is published on a regular basis to keep patients and the broader community informed of the latest institutional news. The elimination of the prior appointment requirement for inpatient visitation reflects the hospital’s ongoing, thoughtful commitment to creating an environment where patients and their families can feel truly at ease.
